Thanks to the generous support of local and independent bookstore, BookPeople, our 3rd graders were treated to the first author visit of the year. Author, Janet Tashjian, stopped by the Summitt Elementary library to talk to our kids about some writing basics--coming up with ideas, revising and editing, and even a bit about illustration work. She was promoting her latest book for middle grade readers, called Sticker Girl. Pickup your autographed copy while supplies last from the library!

Storybook Character Day is Coming Up!
Next week, October 24 - 28, is Red Ribbon Week where we celebrate being drug-free. It has become tradition for students to dress up as their favorite storybook characters as we commit to the promise that "our stories will not involve drugs." Now is a great time to start planning what favorite friend you'll come dressed as. Don't miss the fun!
Let's get CREATIVE!

Last Weeks to sign up for the Birthday Book Club!
Did you know that the average cost of a library bound book is $20? Each year the Summitt Library supports over 800 students ranging in ages from 3 to 10 years old in 3 languages (English, Vietnamese, and Spanish) on a shoestring budget of $3 per student?!!!
If you have not already done so, please consider signing up your child(ren), friends, neighbors, and favorite teachers for the Birthday Book Club. Each $10 donation goes directly back into our library collection development and library programming.
