Welcome Back Week

Welcome back to school!

The first week of school is so exciting, albeit exhausting.  I don't know about the rest of you, but those of us in the Richey household are dragging--me, probably worst of all!  But, nevertheless, it was so fun to see so many familiar faces a few extra inches off the ground.  And, to meet so many lovely new boys and girls, timid, yet hopeful--as we all really are--that this will be a great year.

I spent my first week in the library greeting classes and reading them one of 3 stories.

The Yes by Sarah Bee for 4th and 5th grade as we think deeply about how our mindset has such a profound effect on all that we will do at school.

And then perhaps, one of my favorite back-to-school books, especially for my younger grades is Happy School Year by Susan Milord.  We had a great time making lots of school wishes from "fieldtrips everyday" to "class turtles" and even "having my mom come with me." Check out our cupcake display in the hallway with our different ideas for making this a super year!

Next week I will begin seeing students on a regular fixed schedule.  We will begin with "A" week.  For the library that will mean my even grades--kinder, 2nd, and 4th will visit the library next week.  Mrs. Neill, in the computer lab, will see the odd grades--1st, 3rd, and 5th.

Please don't be alarmed if you don't see books coming home right away.  Particularly in the lower grades, we spend the first few visits learning about book care BEFORE we start self-selecting and check-out.  Thanks for your patience and understanding.
